So, one day after band, a trombone player named Joe said, "Hey, lets form a jazz band that's not ***ociated with the Burris/Academy band, and we can get together and practice, and play at various performances and stuff."

So, we did. There are 16 of us total, counting our roadies and a "conductor" (haha, nobody really watches her...). Some of us are from the Academy, and some of us are from Burris, and the drummer is a college friend we know.

And... we played our first performance last night!

And... there are videos!!!

http://www.youtube.com/CuppaJoeJazz

It was for a show put on by a Masonic temple featuring the life of the Harris triplets (really old barbershop singers). Joe was a soprano for the group that was singing with them, and the group wanted our jazz ensemble thing (AKA Cuppa Joe) to play as a group of jazz musicians performing as the first act in a scene that involved a park, as well as play for their afterglow party.

So, we played "In the Mood" for the park scene, but you can't see us, since our roadie that was holding the camera wasn't close to us, and most of the lights were down. But, you can hear us, and kinda see the group of old guys that were singing for the show behind us.

For the afterglow party, we played "Light My Fire", "Smooth", and "I Will Follow Him". Again, our roadie got a video of "I Will Follow Him" but it's not very good quality... and our choreography kinda failed for it, lol, but it was hecka fun!

We're going to be performing in parks and at local businesses to raise money to buy more music, and we're also going to hold a performance somewhere around Christmas time in Anderson, with lots of jazzy Christmas music. Also, in the spring, the Masonic temple group wants us back to play at their cabaret! Soo... watch the videos, and keep looking for more!

This is really exciting, guys. Srsly. Amazing. You should convince Fischer to start up a jazz band on the side!

Hello, I'm Joe the trombone player that Anna is talking about. She wanted me to come on here and say something, so I did. I must say this jazz band has been a really fun experience, and the best thing is is that it has no affiliation with the "official" Burris band, which makes it much more fun because it's not mandatory. btw, I wasn't singing soprano, I was singing Tenor... but then again Tenor in barbershop pretty much is soprano, but I can see why she said I sang soprano...I do it all the time, lol.
